BBC News Reporter/Producer Linden Kemkaran is a keen runner, a mother of two, a motorbike enthusiast, and a budding entrepreneur. Currently completing property renovation projects as a hobby, Linden is looking to set up her own company beginning in September of 2008: Linden Productions. The company will serve as Kemkaran's base for freelance journalism (writing, presenting, and reporting), as well as extending her hobby of renovation into a full-fledged business. Linden aims, as part of her new entrepreneurial endeavor, to buy, develop, and sell at least two or three properties per year in and around the Sevenoaks area.
In the professional sector, Linden Kemkaran has made considerable gains within the BBC News infrastructure, following years of work as a private secretary within the Ministry of Defence. From July 1998 to June 2001, Linden worked as a News Planner and Organiser at London-based BBC News. As such, Linden was responsible for the organisation of the news diary, and customarily put in place all the logistics and resources necessary to ensure full coverage of that day's events in the broadcast. Linden Kemkaran later worked as the Defence and Security Producer of BBC News. In this capacity, Linden personally oversaw the majority of the BBC military picture library, correcting mistakes and ensuring all BBC News coverage as accurate.
Post 9/11, Linden Kemkaran's role as Defence and Security Producer of BBC News made her the main point of contact between the Ministry of Defence and the BBC during the 2001 war in Afghanistan and the 2003 Iraqi invasion. In her capacity as Defence and Security Producer, Kemkaran gained a wider understanding of the Bin Laden age of terror, and how different nations interpreted the threat and planned to counter it. By utilising her specialist knowledge and excellent contacts, Kemkaran was able to strengthen the preparedness of the BBC to the events following 9/11, and also ensured informational accuracy in the broadcasting.
Today, Linden Kemkaran lives with her husband and two young children, runs long distance races, volunteers at her children’s nursery, and is a regular supporter of the RSPCA and the Redwings Horse Sanctuary, among other non-profit organisations.
