As the VP of worldwide marketing, Hanson’s successful branding strategies helped Neutrogena establish itself as a leading brand in skincare products. The works of Rowland Hanson at Neutrogena would later attract the big-time moguls Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.
With his success at Neutrogena, Mr. Hanson was starting to capture the attention of various investors. However, it would be Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer that would convince him to leave Neutrogena to incorporate his own proven branding strategies into what would later be known as Microsoft. At Microsoft, Rowland Hanson served as the Vice President of Corporate Communications. Hanson created and executed Microsoft’s well-praised branding strategy that would include the market introduction of Microsoft's most popular product the graphical interface that Hanson himself named "Windows." Years later, a number of books were published on the history of Microsoft and Rowland Hanson’s strategies that led to the dominance of the Microsoft and Windows brands.
