David Zarett, one of the Pacific Northwest’s well respected real estate developers, has shifted his focus to sustainable design and philanthropy. Zarett Properties, founded in 1992 by David Zarett, has had years of tremendous successes renovating turn-of-the-century industrial buildings in downtown Seattle, including the Cobalt Building and the former Diamond Ice & Storage Co. plant. In 2007, UCM/FPI-Cobalt LLC purchased the Cobalt Building for $20 million. Once a fixture of the Los Angeles commercial real estate community, David Zarett is interested in historic buildings for their uniqueness. An alumnus of Ashland’s Southern Oregon State University, David Zarett studied business, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in the subject. Currently a resident of Seattle, David Zarett offers generous support to disaster relief efforts, the Boys and Girls Club, the American Red Cross, Camp Korey, and Doctors Without Borders. David Zarett also volunteers his time to organizations dedicated to helping the homeless and at-risk youth. In his leisure time, David Zarett studies Architecture and practices yoga. A traveler and hiker, David Zarett enjoys foreign culture and the outdoors. To stay in shape, David Zarett plays basketball, tennis, and golf. David Zarett also has a great appreciation for literature, admiring the works of Ayn Rand, George Orwell, Raymond Carver, and Katherine Dunn.
