A recognized leader in the area of high school reform, Fal Asrani has maintained various administrative roles in the education system throughout her career. In September, Dr. Asrani, Louie Rocha, principal from Antioch High School and Vice Principal, Jason Murphy, presented at a conference in Fairfield on reforming high schools. Working closely with the team in Antioch High School, Dr. Asrani was able to identify this reform initiative as the Capacity Building Model. In essence, this model supports the theory that change can only be systemic if the people within the building take ownership and are willing to be held accountable. Antioch High School staff and administrators is the perfect example of a school that embraced changes by creating the capacity in the building to support the changes. The school changed its schedule from block to traditional, changed its counseling program by adding more counselors and supporting individual student needs, and supporting administrators to work collaboratively and yet by being empowered to make decisions. Currently, Fal Asrani oversees Antioch Unified School District's secondary education department and has been instrumental in the push for higher academic a-g rigorous courses and the college-going culture. Parents Connected, a strong college advocacy group has been working with her to create safe and successful secondary schools in the district.
