Marcia Hatch is originally from Michigan. She was recruited to play basketball at the University of California at Berkeley, where she was a scholarship athlete. She graduated from CAL with honors in 1993 with a B.A. in History. Ms. Hatch then received a scholarship from Rotary International to do graduate level work in international relations at the University of Chile in Santiago, Chile. Ms. Hatch then returned to Michigan to attend the University of Michigan Law School. She received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1997. Ms. Hatch began her legal career at the law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York, NY. After several years of working in New York, Ms. Hatch returned to California begin working at the Venture Law Group, a boutique firm focused on representing emerging growth technology clients. In 2003 the Venture Law Group merged with the law firm of Heller Ehrman LLP, also located in Menlo Park, CA. Ms. Hatch was made a partner at Heller Ehrman LLP. In 2008 Ms. Hatch was recruited by and joined the law firm of Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian, LLP. Ms. Hatch was attracted to Gunderson Dettmer as it a top tier boutique firm focused on emerging growth technology companies.
At Gunderson Dettmer Ms. Hatch continues to grow her practice which is focused on corporate work for emerging growth technology companies and the representation of venture capitalist that invest in emerging growth companies. Ms. Hatch works with numerous emerging technology companies, including companies in the clean tech, information technology, life sciences, and semiconductor sectors. Her work with companies includes helping start-ups in the strategic planning and incorporation process, raising money through debt and equity financing events, general corporate representation, employee stock option and employment matters, mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, and advising boards of directors on corporate governance and fiduciary matters.
Some of Ms. Hatch’s recent transactions include acting as company counsel a solar thermal company, a wireless memory card company, multiple enterprise software companies, and a semi-conductor support company. Ms. Hatch has also recently acted as investor counsel on several investments that include a renewable cement company, a geothermal lithium mining company, and a thin film solar company. Due to her expertise in the field of clean tech law and funding, Ms. Hatch has also served as a moderator for several clean tech panels.
