In 2005, Mitch Copp was elected by the Portland Police Association membership to serve as Treasurer. From 2005 to 2009, Mitch Copp planned long-term investment strategies for the Portland Police Association, working with an annual budget of $1 million and representing the interests and needs of over 900 Portland police officers. Mitch Copp earned re-election in 2008, after successfully establishing a 501c-3 Foundation that will benefit Portland officers and their families if injured in the line of duty.
