Samantha Hilsenrod is the founder of the Phi Mu sorority, the newest of such organizations on the campus of New Orleans’ Tulane University. She is Chairperson for the Phi Mu Fraternity Relations committee, responsible for maintaining relations with fellow sororities and fraternities on the Tulane campus. Samantha Hilsenrod attends Tulane and pays for her living expenses through a combination of merit-based scholarships and employment in the landmark Bourbon Cowboy, a busy New Orleans bar where Ms. Hilsenrod’s natural skills at communications and people management are put to excellent use, especially during Mardi Gras and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Samantha Hilsenrod came to the Bourbon Cowboy already an experienced and successful people manager, having worked previously in a busy New York restaurant, Gino’s of Long Beach, where the peak summer season brings waits for tables of over an hour at this popular restaurant. Samantha Hilsenrod built up her professional career experience as an intern in a busy boutique public relations firm, HJMT of Westbury, New York. Ms. Hilsenrod worked at this Long Island firm, formatting press releases, seeking corporate sponsors for events, organizing raffles, helping to organize and set up events, all the while dealing extensively over the phone and in person with clients and the public. This experience has carried Samantha Hilsenrod to her ongoing internship with the grassroots environmental advocacy group Gulf Restoration Network. Ms. Hilsenrod spearheads public relations and educational initiatives, participates in letter writing, email, and other direct outreach campaign efforts, and fosters connections between this environmental advocacy organization and local businesses and donors in the wake of the Gulf Coast oil disaster that continues to affect the region. Samantha Hilsenrod has most recently completed an internship as a Campaign Facilitator for Ariel Publicity and Cyber PR, LLC of New York, during the summer of 2010. Her duties included implementing cyber public relations campaigns for a variety of independent artists who make up Ariel Publicity’s clientele. Ms. Hilsenrod increased the firm’s Internet presence on social networking sites during her time at Ariel Publicity, and updated the company’s complex electronic system that delivered their clients’ virtual press kits to a growing number of Internet outlets. Samantha Hilsenrod currently maintains a 3.7 GPA at Tulane University studying communications and Spanish. She anticipates graduation in May of 2012.
